MAC BEAUTY FAQ

Which bronzer to use for your face?

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF FACE POWDERS

Face Powders or setting powders are an important step of any makeup routine. There is so much new technology behind MAC face powders today, that they generally have multi-functional beauty ingredients that will mattify, perfect imperfections, smooth over pores and fine lines, whilst set makeup for a totally flawless finish.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SHADE OF POWDER?

They should be used as the last step of the makeup to set the foundation and other face products. The shade that you select can depend on a variety of makeup elements. Firstly your skin type, then the finish of your foundation and then your usage needs will all determine the type of powder you should opt for. The shade selection would then depend on the powder formula that you chose and in most cases should not be an exact match to your foundation shade. There are a few reasons why.

Let's look at the different makeup needs and share some easy tips of how to select the right powder for you.

TRANSPARANT POWDERS

The most common need is a Face powder to combat oily skin concerns and create a matte finish. When the skin is prone to excess oil, it means that the skin is more moist. This is an important factor when choosing the right product because when the powder absorbs the oil, it will darken and change colour through the oxidation process. To avoid this, there are a couple of options to consider. If you are purely wanting to control oil throughout the day, you can use a transparent or translucent finishing powder over your base. A transparent powder means that you can apply it frequently throughout the day and it will not add colour or build up to your skin, which is great for a more natural texture. For this the product can be pressed or loose, try MAC P&P Translucent powder loose, for stunning smoothness and long-lasting mattified skin.

COLOURED POWDERS

If you are looking for coverage from your powder, you will need to select a formula with colour and opacity.  If you are going for this option and have oily skin or like to use a dewy, more moisturizing foundation, then you need to go 1 to 3 shades lighter than the Foundation shade that you use. The higher the pigment load the higher the coverage you will receive. Pressed powders tend to have a lower pigment load than Loose powders. This will vary brand to brand, product to product, so always ask for advice from the beauty representative.

It is good to apply a setting powder with colour and opacity after you have finished your makeup  in the morning. The powder will add additional coverage and in most cases create a superior flawlessness to your makeup, especially for those who prefer a medium to full skin coverage. Powder can be sheerly applied with a brush, whilst sponges will give more coverage or higher product delivery where needed.

Even if you use a powder with colour and coverage in the morning A pressed powder with translucent undertones is a great way to maintain the makeup throughout the day, so that your skin stays fresh.
